We Teach & Guide
Coaching Clinics
Good coaching is core to a great athletic experience, but skill levels can vary greatly from school to school. So, hosting coaching clinics is one of the key services we offer. Each year, we hold at least four free coaching clinics that are open to all CYO schools in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. We are thankful to both the CYO and Dr. Kevin Baxter, Superintendent of Schools for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, for helping us promote these clinics.
Volleyball Clinics
Jessica Swarbrick, founder of Volleyskills, hosts the volleyball players’ clinic at the gym at St. Albert the Great in Compton. Since its inception in 2015, over 100 student athletes have attended the fun, two-hour clinic to learn key skills from both collegiate and professional volleyball players.
Leadership Academy
SSSP hosted our first Leadership Academy for graduating student-athletes in June of 2017 to expand and enhance our core mission. The goal of the academy is to help students from our schools make the often difficult transition from elementary school to high school. Read more…
Soccer Camp
Mark Hodson of Evo Soccer has teamed with SSSP to offer a week-long soccer camp for our schools each summer. The camp is held at St. Francis X Cabrini field where boys and girls participate in a fun week of drills and games with high quality coaches, many who hail from the UK.
We Host Tournaments, Clinics & College Days
The Saint Sebastian Sports Project works hard to help build community. One way we do that is through our traveling cup tournaments which we put on throughout the year to give student athletes at the schools we support increased opportunities to compete in a fun and healthy environment.
College Days
To expose students to college opportunities, we have partnered with Loyola Marymount University (LMU) to sponsor fun-packed sports days in which kids receive a personalized tour of the campus, watch some inter-collegiate play, and enjoy a meet-and–greet with some of LMU’s Division I athletes.
Dr. Lewis A. Yocum Memorial Gym
The family of the beloved sports physician established the Lew Yocum Memorial Fund after his death. Donations to the fund from Dr. Yokum’s colleagues, friends and major league baseball teams were directed to the Saint Sebastian Sports Project. After careful consideration, the SSSP board decided to use the funds to remodel the gym at St. Albert the Great in Dr. Yokum’s honor. Read more . . .
We Honor
The Saint Sebastian Sports Project annually presents the Karen Beebe Arrow Award in memory of American Martyrs School’s beloved gym director The award goes to an individual who, like Karen Beebe, has made exceptional contributions to increasing participation in organized sports programs for Catholic school children in and around the Los Angeles Archdiocese.
We Raise Funds
It is at the Mulligan, SSSP’s annual fundraising dinner, that we raise the majority of the funds we use to support our schools.
