and the Lew Yocum Memorial Gym

The family of the beloved sports physician established the Lew Yocum Memorial Fund after his death. Donations to the fund from Dr. Yokum’s colleagues, friends and major league baseball teams were directed to the Saint Sebastian Sports Project.  After careful consideration, the SSSP board decided to use the funds to remodel the gym at St. Albert the Great in Dr. Yokum’s honor. SSSP found a willing partner in J.F.Shea & Co and the refurbishment of the Compton gym was completed in June 2014. Since then, more than a thousand young student athletes from 20 neighborhood schools have enjoyed access to the facility.
