Saint Joseph Hawthorne

Saint Joseph, founded in 1928, is a transitional Kindergarten through 8th grade Catholic elementary school.  The school prides itself in its “Social Justice Commitment”. Each grade adopts one of the “Catholic Social Justice Teachings” and spends the entire year learning about the Teaching and helping a local organization that is embodies the Teaching.  For example, the first grade, using the Teaching of solidarity, has partnered with an Islamic first grade in Hawthorne to build relationships among the students and stand in solidarity with the Islamic students.  Saint Joseph is dedicated to developing critical thinkers in a Catholic context who will positively impact their communities by living out the following school-wide Learning Expectations: Committed Catholics, Academic Achievers, Self-Aware Individuals, and Globally Aware Citizens.
